Safety and Security Tips
- Keep a light on at night on your deck or patio.
- Lock your car at night and press the “lock” button on your garage door opener located on the wall inside your garage. This will disable all remotes and prevent anyone from entering your house through the garage. They may try to break into your car in the driveway and attempt to enter through the garage by using the car's remote control device.Keep your kitchen to garage door locked at night!
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Don’t leave your garage open overnight.
- Keep a telephone on your night table.
- In warm weather, lock the ground floor windows at night. Use your A/C instead.
- See someone walking through the community who you haven’t seen before? Say hello and ask if they are new to the community. You might meet a new neighbor or you will send a message to the trespasser.
- During snow storms, wait until your walkway is cleared before venturing outside. Be aware of icy spots on the ground.
- Leave a house key with a trusted neighbor in the event an emergency requires entry to your condo when you are not at home.
- Do you leave your car unlocked overnight? DON'T. See number 2 above. Thieves may check your car doors in the early morning hours to see if they are open. If they find your car door open they may steal anything in your car.
- Shower Safety: Many serious accidents happen when you get in or out of the shower. Never step directly on a tiled floor with wet feet. Tiled floors get slippery when they are wet. Place a slip resistant rug on the floor in front of the shower. When exiting the shower step on the rug instead of the slippery tile floor.
- Staircase Safety: NEVER walk up or down the stairs carrying heavy objects. ALWAYS hold on to the handrail. If you are unable to walk up or down safely you may need a stair lift. Search "Auto stair lift" on Google and you will see hundreds of companies who provide sales and installation services for stair lift chairs.
